I'm hitting the road next week and although I'd like to own a new classy suitcase I think this Swarovski Crystal Trunk by Samsonite Black Label is a little over-the-top for my style. Patterned after a popular 1920s style and covered thoroughly in sparkling, glittering crystals, this trunk is a combination of flash and class modern bling on a vintage design.

The trunks can be purchased in a limited edition of just 30 and despite the fact that they were available on Colette just a week ago, today they're no more listed.

I'm always somewhat split when considering liking box-style clutches since despite the fact that I like just how most of them look, carrying a hard-sided bag with pointed corners and harsh surface area textures doesn't feel very deluxe in my hands. I favor the concept of an envelope clutch, and initially this one attracted me, but the more I see it the uglier I think it is. It's the Micol Metallic Envelope Clutch by D&G and it's pretty much exactly what it sounds like a large leather envelope. It zips closed rather than folds over as a typical envelope, and from the photos it feels as if it's somewhat embarrassing. It features a leather pull using an attached silver padlock on the front side, a contrast panel and clinging key bell on the back, and (possibly the neatest feautre in my opinion) the interior is lined in a nice shade of pink silk. $695

I'm not crazy about the triangular shape of this crocodile pelham shopper bag from Gucci but otherwise it's a standard, versatile shoulder bag that's sure to be useful as well as fashionable. Featuring crocodile in dark green with silver hardware and two braided straps, the bag also has horsebit accents, tab-snap closure, protective feet on the bottom, and an inside zip pocket. Measuring 19.3" x 5.1" x 11" it's an attractive and generously sized bag but I must admit I'm not sure what exactly warrants the sky high (even for Gucci) price of $22,900.

The luxury-for-rent masterminds over at Bag Borrow or Steal have made two huge announcements: They're expanding -- customers will soon be able to get their hands on sunglasses, jewelry, cocktail attire, outerwear and "anything couture." And they're changing their name to Avelle to reflect the fact it's not just handbags anymore.

The company's tagline, "Guilty pleasure, without the guilt," has convinced many a hard-working gal that $6 a week is a quite reasonable amount of money (about 1.5 lattes?) to spend on a bag she will never actually own.

Since its inception in 2004, Bag Borrow or Steal has quickly risen to become the single largest rental luxury service online. Even Jennifer Hudson borrowed in the Sex and the City movie before Carrie generously bestowed that Louis Vuitton number on her, which at $5,400 would take a young assistant quite some time to pay off. (The Vuitton at right goes for $49 a week for members, which means you'd be paid in full in about six months.) I guess accessibility is the new exclusivity.

Louis Vuitton collectors whose obsession knows no bounds may have a voyage ahead of them. As the NY Sun reports, the only way to get your hands on one of the Louis Vuitton handbags designed by Rei Kawakubo the avant-garde founder of Comme des Garçons is to visit the pop-up store LVMH has set up in the Comme des Garçons store in Tokyo. The store is open through December and only shoppers who go there can place an order for one of Kawakubo's six designs. You cannot order by phone or internet and can only order one bag per person. And you don't even get your bag until after the shop closes and the orders are put into production. At least you don't have to trek pack to Tokyo to pick it up, the bags will be sent to the customer's local Louis Vuitton shop.

Having just returned from a trip to Montana, where I happily picked up a Pendleton handbag at Bob's Outdoor in downtown Livingston (not to be confused with Bob's Taxidermy, which is right up the road), imagine my surprise to find that Pendleton -- the Oregon family-owned woolen mill that's been around for 140 years -- is on trend for fall.
